Consultation
Dr Bijan Shabani will assess your hair loss pattern and look for any underlying causes. He will then evaluate the donor area (area of skin where hair follicles will be extracted) and the recipient area (area where the hair follicles will be inserted). He will discuss your suitability for the procedure and discuss the outcomes.
Preparation
On the day of the procedure, your scalp will be cleansed, and the donor and recipient areas will be marked. You may receive local anaesthesia to numb the areas.
Donor hair extraction
A small, specialized instrument will be used to individually extract hair follicles from the donor area. This process is meticulous and can take several hours, depending on the number of grafts required.
Graft preparation
Once the hair follicles are extracted, they are carefully examined and prepared for transplantation. This involves trimming excess tissue and separating the follicles based on their size and quality.
Recipient site creation
Tiny incisions are made in the recipient area where the hair follicles will be implanted. The angle, direction and density of the existing hair will be considered to create natural-looking results.
Graft implantation
A small, specialized instrument will be used to individually extract hair follicles from the donor area. This process is meticulous and can take several hours, depending on the number of grafts required.
Post-transplant care
After the procedure, you will receive advice on how to best care for your newly transplanted hair. This may include guidelines on washing, medications, and avoiding strenuous activities for a period of time. It's crucial to follow these instructions to promote proper healing and optimal hair growth.
