General Surgery

General Surgery is the broadest of the surgical specialties. It focuses on the treatment and care of patients who require a surgical procedure as part of treatment for a range of conditions.

Our Specialist Surgeon Dr Barry McCabe has undertaken further training to specialise in particular areas within general surgery. Depending on the type of procedure, these may be performed as open surgery, minimally invasive surgery, or as robotic surgery.

Our practice has forged trusted relationships with our local hospitals, general practitioners, imaging practices, pathologists, oncologists and allied health professionals to ensure we provide patient centric care.

Endoscopies

These are essential for early diagnosis of bowel and stomach cancers as well as for the detection of other pathologies such as ulcers and polyps. The endoscopies may include resection of any polyps that are visualised during the procedure.

Skin Cancers

These may include BCC, SCC or melanoma. All skin lesions are sent for pathology to confirm the diagnosis. Dr McCabe has extensive experience with complex excisions.  Most procedures can be done under local anaesthetic at the time of consultation.

Hernias

Dr McCabe offers minimally invasive repair of hernias using laparoscopic (keyhole) techniques.

This allows for less post procedure discomfort, rapid recover and reduced risk of recurrence.

Pelvic Floor Disorders

Prolapses can be disabling and, when severe, require surgical repair. Repairs of the pelvic floor will improve associated symptoms such as constipation and incontinence.

Minor Procedures

These include vasectomies, circumcision, wedge resection of toenails and excision of lipomas, sacral nerve stimulation to assist with incontinence.
